#5 Vaseline Men Body Wash

Of course, the star of the show is the sponsor of the camp! But sucking up aside (*ahem*), XTERRA was the perfect opportunity for us to see just how good Vaseline Men is. I’ll leave it up to you to imagine how muddy we were! Vaseline Men kept us clean and smelling good during the entire camp! Vaseline Men packs some serious body cleansing punch!

#4 New Balance 610 | P 3,795 | Trail | Weight: 10.6oz or 300grams (size9)

This baby is big as Colossus, light as Nightcrawler, and grips like Wolverine. I got the New Balance 610 the night before the race and I didn’t regret my purchase one bit (Yep! I know you’re not supposed to try anything new on race day).  If you’re looking for a rugged and über cheap trail shoe, this one is for you. Not to mention it comes in orange too!

The rugged and durable New Balance 610 trail running shoe features N-FUSE® technology to give you superior cushioning for all outdoor activities, and the Ndurance® outsole gives you traction everywhere from your favorite running trail to the treadmill at the gym. This update to the immensely popular 573 is suitable for those with a neutral running gait.

#3 Shotz Energy Gels | P95 per shot (no pun intended)

Photobucket

Out of sheer curiosity, plus that we simply love buying and trying everything new in the market (Hey, it’s our job!), I decided to buy a couple of “test shotz” to see just how good these multi-colored gels are. If there’s one thing I don’t like, it’s changing my nutrition plan so I knew I was taking a big risk trying shotz on race day. We’re happy to say that this product works as advertised. I was still hyper even after the race!

One thing that I also liked about Shotz is its consistency. It’s very thin and watery like. Which makes it very easy to digest even when you’re running on race pace. Let’s just put it this way, I think I just found my newest favorite energy gel!

#2 Rocktape

Photobucket

If you joined the 2012 Cobra Ironman 70.3 Philippines and the Century Tuna 5150, you might be already familiar with Rocktape. We got lucky Doc. Martin Camara of Intercare, distributors of Rocktape, was one of the participants of the camp! That allowed us to get Rocktape’d all we want!! If not for the fact that we’d look like mummies, we’d cover our entire body with this product!

The camp also allowed us to road test Rocktape to its absolute limits. If it can survive the mud, mud,  mud (yes it was that muddy), and all the elements thrown at us, then it will survive your day-to-day activities.

Matteo Guidicelli said it best, “I don’t know how I’d be able to survive the camp if not for rock tape”.

Rocktape improves athletic performance and promotes recovery. Unlike conventional tape, Rocktape lifts the skin away from muscles which increases blood flow. Rocktape helps support the muscles which helps prevent fatigue. Rocktape can be used both to apply compression to promote recovery, or decompression to relieve pain and swelling. It is also water resistent, latex free and with 180% elasticity.

Made for competition, Rocktape is the only kinesiology tape engineered to meet the demands of endurance athletes like runners, swimmers and cyclists. Rocktape was launched in the Philippines during the Century Tuna 5150 Triathlon last June and continuous to  supported the triathlon community during the Cobra Energy Drink 70.3 Ironman Philippines. It is used in  other sports as well such as basketball, football, tennis golf, and diving. There is a variant called Rocktape H20 which is specifically designed to meet the needs of water sports such swimming, surfing or water polo.

Each Rocktape roll retails for:

Plain /  Colored Rocktape

a. 5cm x 5m        – Php 750

b.    10cm x 5m      – Php 1,575

Designed RockTape

a.    5cm x 5m        – Php 800

b.    10cm x 5m      – Php 1,650

You can purchase Rocktape from All  Intercare Centers ( www.intercare-centers.com) and The YoungHusband Football Academy ( www.tyfa.com) and others.

#1 Scott Scale Comp 29’er

Photobucket

I name thee, the big kahuna! I got lucky The Brick Multisport Store hooked me up UNISON, distributors of Scott in the Philippines, which lent me this bad ass bike. Seriously, who can not love this ride? The Scott Scale 29’er that they gave me was blinged out with a DT Swiss fork, SRAM xx group set, and Crank Brothers Cobalt rims! Come anybody say BLING?

I must admit, having ridden normal 26 sized MTB’s my entire life, I had a hard time adjusting to the size of the 29’er. But as soon as I got used to it, boy oh boy, I was already thinking of building one of my own! (Yes, sadly, I had to return the bike after the event *sob*).

As painful as it was parting ways with the big kahuna, I have nothing to say but good things about the bike. The bike never failed, never had a single mechanical, and performed flawlessly throughout the 3 day camp. If you’re looking for a good 29’er, this ride is highly recommended.
