PH Swimming Team bound for 7th ASEAN Para Games | Swimming News

The Philippine swimming delegation of six is set to make a strong finish in the 7th ASEAN Para Games in Nay Pyi Taw Myanmar this January 14 – 20.

Leading the team is Arnel Aba, Speedo elite athlete and currently the South East Asian Para Games record holder in the 200m backstroke, 200m freestyle, and 200m individual medley.

Aba was a two-time gold medalist during the 2010 Asian Para Games. He is set to compete in the 200m and 400m freestyle events and 200 individual medley.

Gary Bejino who recently copped silver and bronze medals in last year’s Asian Youth Para Games will also be part of the swimming delegation.

2011 ASEAN Para Games triple gold medalist and record-breaker Ernie Gawilan, Daniel Damaso, Roland Sabido, and Remegio Lobos make up the delegation.

The Philippines will be sending a total of 58 athletes and 17 officials to Nay Pyi Taw this week to compete in seven sporting events – archery, athletics, chess, powerlifting, swimming, table tennis, and wheelchair basketball.

Spearheading the team are Chef de Mision Ral Rosario, Head Coach Tony Ong, and Assistant Coach Paul Vista.

The 7th ASEAN Para Games is a biennial multisport event held after the Southeast Asian Games. It is expected to gather more than 1,500 differently-abled athletes who will compete in twelve sporting events.
