Breaking : Nikko Huelgas Wins Gold in the 2015 South East Asian Games!
It’s a double gold weekend for the Philippine National Triathlon Team in the 2015 South East Asian Games! Nikko Huelgas wins the gold medal and finishes the race in 2:04:32! Jonard Saim dug deep and hung on for 6th place! Congratulations Team Philippines!

Huelgas overcame a 1 minute deficit on the swim to win the 28th edition of the South East Asian Games! Becoming to second Filipino to win the Gold and bring honor to our country. Heavy favorite Jonard Saim was 7th out of the water. Almost 2 minutes behind the race leader
From then on, the Philippines held a tactical race hanging in the lead pack with Jonard Saim and Nikko Huelgas switching places and helping each other on the bike. Huelgas was 16 seconds behind race leader Hemwet W. of Thailand heading into t2. Saim was a close 4th coming in along with the chase pack.
40km Bike Leg Results
It was on the run where Nikko pushed the pace and eventually gotten the lead from Hemwet. From then one, Nikko pushed his lead from 30 secs up to 1 minute and cruised all the way to the finish. The final run is a 10km / 4 loop run.
This is a historic double win for Team Philippines as this marks the first time the Philippines won the Gold medal in triathlon. It’s a good day to be a Filipino triathlete!
Men’s Final Results
Despite being in good position to win the race after the bike, Jonard Saim suffered on the run but still dug deep and hung on for 6th place. 5:46 minutes behind race winner, Nikko Huelgas. Malaysia and Singapore capped off the men’s podium finishing in second and third respectively.
