TRAP Launches #BalikSubit

The Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP) launched its BALIK SUBIT campaign aimed at getting back triathletes, both elite and age groupers , who had raced in Subic before and relive those days by joining next year’s Subic Bay International Triathlon (SuBIT) scheduled on April 29-30, now on its 24th year. Registration opens on Nov. 1,2016.

Incoming TRAP President Ramon Marchan, together with national coach Rick Reyes and marketing head Sarita Zafra graced the PSA Forum this morning for the launching and shared the NSA’s other focus in the sport, which is the training of the national triathlon team and searching for the future Youth Olympic Games (YOG) representatives.

Marchan, who replaces long time TRAP President Tom Carrasco Jr., on January 1,2017, who will be the Sec-Gen in turn, shared the early years of SuBIT when he joined it at the time that triathlon was still developing, ” in 1993 TRAP still lacked the knowledge, equipment, the trained manpower but with the vision that it has found the perfect triathlon country, Tom decided to stage the very first SuBIT with less than a hundred participants joining, and from that humble beginning, brought the event to where it is now. Subic is where it all began, meaning the big international triathlon events that presently, the Philippines is popular for, ” said Marchan.

Along the way, with the support of the International Triathlon Union ( ITU ) and the Asian Triathlon Confederation ( ASTC ), SuBIT saw a dramatic increase in both local and foreign participants, including world class and champion triathletes , ” we at TRAP believe that SuBIT has indeed played a major role in the development of the sport in the country, ” added Marchan.

Reyes discussed the preparation being made by TRAP both for its elite athletes, including high performance training and competitions abroad and the selection process for the 2018 YOG entries.

Marchan called on all those who have raced in Subic to join next year’s edition of the event and join the on line “Balik Ala-ala” and “Balik Tanaw” contests to bring back memories of their own experiences in what Frank Lacson, the country’s very first national triathlon champion said of Subic, that he will only stop racing there when Subic has been nuked already.

A triathlete making a comeback and a true blue Scorpio. That sums it up quite nicely :)
