Alveo IRONMAN 70.3 Davao: Celebrating Triathlon and Community Spirit in the Philippines

Davao City, Philippines (March 24, 2023) – On Sunday, March 26, close to 1,700 participants from 48 countries will gather in Davao City to compete in the Alveo IRONMAN 70.3 Davao Philippines. With a world-class course, 55 World Championship slots, and an emphasis on diversity and inclusion, this year’s race promises to be one of the most unique and empowering events in the triathlon world.

Headlining the race are 19 pro athletes, including seasoned competitors Michael Raelert from Germany, Ognjen Stojanovic from Serbia, and Filipe Azevedo from Portugal, as well as top contenders Dimity-Lee Duke and Sarah Crowley from Australia, and Lottie Lucas from the United Arab Emirates. The total prize purse for the highlight pro division offers $30,000, with the winners taking home a share of the prize money.

But it’s not just about the pros. Age-group athletes will also have the opportunity to compete for 30 slots in the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Lahti, Finland, as well as 25 additional slots available exclusively for women.

Beyond the individual and relay categories, the event also features an 11-person team competition called Tribu Maisugon, which honors the 11 tribes of the host city. The winning squad will take home P550,000, including P500,000 from Davao City and P50,000 from Aboitiz. This team award is the brainchild of the Davao City government and promotes support for diversity and oneness. Over 2,012 teams have qualified for the Tribu Maisugon Team Event.

The Alveo IRONMAN 70.3 Davao Philippines has previously been hosted by Davao City in 2018 and 2019, where it was awarded the best host city in Asia and the best IRONMAN 70.3 race in the region. The event will take place at Azuela Cove, a posh Ayala Land, Inc. estate in Davao, which promises to be a stunning backdrop for the race.

“We are excited to finally return to Davao City,” said IRONMAN Asia Managing Director Jeff Edwards. “We look forward to seeing once again the tremendous spirit of the community that supports the event.”

The race is presented by Petron and supported by Alveo Land, whose head of Sales and Marketing Group’s Aries Cajucom shares the same vision with the triathletes, that is, to go beyond limits of strength through determination, passion, and dedication.

Yeng Tupaz of Aveana, owner of Azuela, has guaranteed an enjoyable race, but also a testament to the speed, power, and endurance for all the participants.

As the community spirit of triathlon lives in the Philippines, the Alveo IRONMAN 70.3 Davao presented by Petron is an event that brings together athletes from all over the world to compete, inspire, and celebrate the power of the human spirit.
