LUIS REX KROG OF GO FOR GOLD CYCLING TEAM SNARES SILVER AT THE 2018 ASIAN CYCLING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Go for Gold Cycling Team is in for a good start this year.

Team member Rex Luis Krog bagged the silver medal in the mass start of the Junior Men’s Division of the Asian Cycling Championships recently held in Naypyidaw, Myanmar – his biggest accomplishment so far. Krog, who will turn 18 on May 14, clocked in at two hours, 32 minutes, and 49 seconds – 11 seconds behind Taisei Hino of Japan, and 12 seconds ahead of Wachirawit Saenkhamwong.

Through the generous support of PhilCycling (INTEGRATED CYCLING FEDERATION OF THE PHILIPPINES), Luis brought back the country’s first Asian championships medal after Rustom Lim’s bronze, also in the road race, all the way back in 2011 in Nakhon Ratchasima, Thailand. The start list consisted of 43 of the most promising cyclists in the continent.

This is only the beginning for Luis, who dedicates his win to his country, his team, his family, and especially to his father who was his number one supporter but passed away last year. “I only wish he was alive to see this.” says Luis about his father.

“For Krog, we’re preparing him for the Under 23 Category next year. We just want to improve his tactics and decision-making for him to be able to take the next level. And if he would be given a chance to race for the World Championships in Austria, that would be a really good exposure for him. Even though we’re not putting the pressure on him to win, we just want to bring out the best out of him. Winning would just be a plus.” said Go for Gold Program Director, Ednalyn Calitis Hualda.

Go for Gold is a project of Powerball Marketing and Logistics Corp, a Filipino company which engages in fund-raising programs for government and institutions. The Go for Gold Team is now deep into preparations for upcoming races like the Ronda Pilipinas and Le Tour de Pilipinas.

“We believe that sports can unite and uplift the spirit of the nation. We are proud to support young athletes like Luis as they pursue their goals and make our country proud.” says Jeremy Go, Vice President for Marketing of PMLC.

Outside of cycling, the Go for Gold Project also supports other sports. Most notably in the triathlon scene, the team supports SEA Games gold and silver medalists John Chicano and Nikko Huelgas who currently are under the care of Coach Melvin Fausto.

A triathlete making a comeback and a true blue Scorpio. That sums it up quite nicely :)
