It was an Aussie 1, 2, and 3 as Tim Reed caught the fast charging Josh Amberger, who led the race from the start all the way ’till the mid point of the run, to finish the inaugural Century Tuna Ironman 70.3 Subic Bay Pilipinas in 3:51:59.
Mitch Robins finished in second with 3:55:48. Amberger, the pre race dark horse, eventually settled for third with a 3:57:12.
Note : Craig “Crowie” Alexander wasn’t able to start the race due to a bad spasm. We caught an image of his bike all alone in transition.
Banjo Norte of Alaska Milk Tri Aspire, used his swim advantage to create a huge gap and keep heavy favorite August Benedicto in check.
Norte finished the race in 4:23:47 while Benedicto came in second with a 4:27:17. We had a little chat with August after the race who was just happy to be on the podium. “I felt it (the fatigue) on the bike. This was my 3rd race in 3 weeks”. Robinson Esteves of Team Sante Barley wrapped up the Men’s Filipino elite division with a 4:27:17
In the women’s division, Parys Edwards of Great Britain dominated the race 4:18:13 finish time.
Beth Gerdes and Dimity-Lee Duke of Australia wrapped up the women’s podium with a 4:24:05 and a 4:27:39 finish, respectively.
Monica Torres, who finished the race in 4:53:46, was on a class of her own in the Women’s Filipino Elite Division, smashing the field with a dominating sub-5 performance.
Maria Hodges came in second with a 5:04:23 while Jenny Rose Guerrero of Alaska Milk Tri Aspire finished in third in 5:10:59.
Note : It’s still unclear to us why Monica Torres got dropped down to the Filipino elite division. We’ll get to the bottom of this and let you guys know asap.

Race Review :
With the sun blazing and the heat shining, the 2015 Century Tuna Ironman 70.3 Subic Bay Pilipinas was a huge success. It definitely offered a different feel than the usual atmosphere of the 4x Race of the Year winner, Cobra Ironman 70.3 Philippines. Less festive, yes, but make no mistake, the event was BIG in all proportions. From the staging, to race feel, and race execution, you can definitely tell that the CT IM 70.3 did everything it can to set itself apart among all the other races held in Subic. Was it successful in doing so? Definitely.
See you guys next year!
