2015 Cobra Ironman 70.3 Philippines | Race Results and Review

Congratulations to all the winners and finishers of the 2015 Cobra Ironman 70.3 Philippines! Clearly, the toughest one of ’em all. The strong current and searing heat definitely didn’t help the participants, but it definitely made finishing (and that beautiful medal) much more worth it!

It was the year of IRONWAR / mano-y-mano as we had two super close sprint finishes at the finish line. In the Men’s Professional category, Tim Reed was able to out-sprint the fast charging fellow Australian Tim Van Berkel to clinch the victory with a 3:46:03 finish time. Reed finished just .02 seconds faster than Van Berkel who clinched second in 3:46:05. Brent McMahon wrapped up to Men’s Professional podium with a 3:50:23. Mitch Robins came in 4th with a 3:55:20 followed by IRONMAN legend Craig Alexander who finished 5th in 3:57:11.

The race wasn’t that close in the Women’s Professional category as heavy favorite Caroline Steffen led the race from start to finish. Steffen crossed the line in 4:23:54, followed by Beth Gerdes of the USA who finished 6 minutes after in 4:29:07. Dimity Lee-Duke of Australia came in third in 4:29:36.

This year’s Filipino elite division is definitely one for the books. August Benedicto, who was trailing as much as 4 minutes after T2, was able to close the gap and chase John Philip Duenas for a spectacular sprint finish. Benedicto, who finished in 4:28:36, edged out Duenas, who crossed the line just seconds after Benedicto in 4:28:42. Banjo Norte just wasn’t able to catch his rhythm as finished third in 4:29:05.

As expected, pro athlete Monica Torres stamped her dominance in the Filipino elite women’s division as she finished in 4:39:37. Second placer Maria Hodges finished 10 minutes + after in 4:53:09 while LC Langit was able to snatch third with a 5:05:30 finish time.
