It’s a gloomy day. I can’t stand up. Better to sleep all day. Sleep, eat, repeat.

This what I usually tell myself and do before I get into multisport way back 2016. Just when I thought I am done with my life- as someone living with  clinical depression, schizophrenia and mania. Medical term as Bipolar Disorder 1.

For several years I have suffered almost bed ridden and in depressive episode. I literally cannot help myself even with bathing or brushing my teeth.

I used to be very active. When I was younger I would go hiking, diving, play badminton, volleyball, basketball, etc. But as we grow older and dwell in cities & life responsibilities— these habits swallow itself slowly and  become lifeless.

Then there was one time I thought of triathlon as a challenge but I did not know how to swim. I get a coach and learnt how to swim at age 32. Did my first Trifecta series back in 2017 and I think multisport is exactly what I needed + therapy, discipline and proper medication.

To challenge myself everyday, join races to beat personal best & interact with health-like-minded individuals was the name of the game. (Even for an introvert me.)

So here I am at 38– still joining events and reminding myself everyday that;

  1. Being healthy need not be a struggle. It just takes a dose of discipline, consistency and positivity.
  2. I don’t need to go hiking, skydiving, etc to get thrilled. Heart pumping races are enough.
  3. “Happiness is real when shared.” – being in a multisport community or a team is one if the best support group ever!
  4. Exercise is not a chore. There are multi ways to enjoy it!
  5. There are lazy days and you’re not alone. The important thing is you’re conscious that you have to move- to feel more alive.

So I am very thankful for people who organize these kind of events and  I’ve found activities  (Aquathlon, Duathlon, Triathlon) that I can do at home or just outside the house without traveling far and less money to spent. Except for registration purposes, of course. :)

Regards,

Cha Santos

A triathlete making a comeback and a true blue Scorpio. That sums it up quite nicely :)
