Giant TCR vs Defy
« on: January 08, 2012, 04:34:07 PM »
Am looking into purchasing my first road bike....

Can anyone enlighten me on the difference between the TCR and the Defy? I will use the bike mostly for just exercising sa Antipolo every other day and long hauls like 100kms every Sunday...

Many thanks...

Yang dalawa lang ang within budget

Defy geometry is less aggressive than the TCR, it's a great starter frameset and an excellent exercise bike.

Yes Shotgun is correct, less aggressive, I believe entry level bike of the year ang Giant Defy ng 2009. TCR is already tried and proven as a workhorse good for both training and racing.

i see..thanks for the inputs...pero on the giant website, they're both under the "performance" level category...hindi ba ibang discipline yung defy like endurance rides and yung tcr for aggressive short races? or they're under the same discipline lang but different geometry as you mentioned?

thanks

the giant defy is designed for recreational/fitness cycling. the "performance" category is just giant's way of marketing their bikes. the tcr, albeit the carbon isp version but similar in geometry as their alu line, is widely used in pro cycling tours.

Hey hey hey. There's a Defy composite! Would you still categorize that as an 'exercise bike'?

I think shorter people should be better on Defy's geometry, as well as very inflexible people. Perhaps it could be a race bike too? :P

I'll take a Defy Composite over a TCR Allux :P

correct sir, preference lang talaga. if you prefer a more aggressive geometry and racier handling go for a tcr. for a more comfortable position and overall feel, get the defy.

I guess we'll have to get more information on the budget. My assumption was for alum framesets. There's a Defy Composite, which is great but there's also a TCR Composite (different from TCR Advanced and SL) which is just slightly more expensive than the Defy Comp :) I'd say about 10-15% price difference only between the two models, whether aluxx or composite :)

As pointed by Ricecooker, Defy can be a race bike on it's own not just an exercise bike.
