In day 1, the men’s division was ruled by Yuichi Hosoda of Japan who finished with a blazing 2:01:32 finish time followed 6 seconds later by Zhihang Jiang of China who finished with a 2:01:38. Ryosuke Yamamoto capped off the podium with a 2:01:52 finish time.

In the women’s division, Mariko Adachi continued the Japanese dominance as she handily beat Yuka Sato, also from Japan, with a 2:14:17 finish time. Sato, who led the race up to the latter part of the run finished 2 minutes behind Mariko with a 2:16:38. China’s Dan Fan won 3rd place with a 2:17:42.

In day 2, the usual suspects, were unusually, up in the podium again.

August Benedicto,  George Vilog, Frank Lacson, Sandra Araullo-Gonzalez, and Monica Torres (despite the bike crash), dominated the race and led their respective age group categories.

A total of 630 triathletes competed in nine age groups both in the men’s and women’s divisions.

Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP), pulled out all the stops to make the 20th anniversary of Subit a memorable one. From the medal, race course, up to the finisher shirts, everything was changed to make the event even more exciting.

Unavoidable glitches happened during the race briefing though as the LED wall failed to function. As a result, Coach Ric had to brief everyone at the sideline on the fly. The reason why we think, some riders got confused and mixed the turnaround area and the right turn going to transition.

But aside from that, there’s a reason why Subit continues to be where to the best of the best of Philippine triathlon, compete and race their hearts out. And we expect TRAP to do even better next year.

We also loved the MINI cooper roving around the race course! Safely away from the participants of course :)
