Live Update : Pinoys at the Ford Ironman World Championships!

Live update from our Official SBR.ph Ironman Kona Correspondent JC Pineda.  Keep visiting the IM Kona 2011 tab for live updates and to keep track of the Pinoys living their dream, racing at the big island of Hawaii!

Reporting live from Ironman World Championships in Kona:

Early this morning, some of the Filipino athletes — Meyo, Ferdie, Peter and Sandra headed over to Highway 270 to check out the dreaded Hawi turn-around point. The jump-off point was at Spencer beach, about 60 kilometers out on the race. Meyo described this stretch to be very hilly and very windy. Ferdie calls this stretch the triple H — Hayop ang Hangin sa Hawi.

In the afternoon, the athletes gathered at the swim start area by the pier to get ready to wave their national flags during the Parade of nations. Aside from flags, banners and floats, the parade featured cute mascots and dancing ladies. The short walk ended at the Expo area as today marked the official opening of registration and the Ironman expo in King Kamehameha hotel as well as the bigger displays along Ali’i Drive by all big brands known to every triathlete.

Some of the big booths included K-Swiss, Rudy Project, Specialized, Trek, etc.

The Ironman store also got filled by athletes eager to grab the good M-dot stuff before it runs out. Some athletes got lucky as Rudy Project gave away 200 Wingspan helmets to promote their new neon colors.

More updates tomorrow!

A triathlete making a comeback and a true blue Scorpio. That sums it up quite nicely :)
