Anvaya Cove Invitational Triathlon Champ Speaks

When’s the last time you passed out? Or better yet, when’s the last time you pushed so hard and passed out during the run part of a triathlon? The 4th Anvaya Cove Invitational Triathlon Champion Kevin Eijansantos is no stranger to that. He led the race from the gun start to the finish. Not to put undue pressure on the kid but the moment I saw that, I knew he was bound for great things in our sport. That’s the stuff that separates the champs from the runner ups. I’m sure we’ll have him soon for our In[FOCUS] but for now, here’s the email and the champ’s recap of what happened at the Anvaya Cove Invitational Tri. Enjoy.

This is somehow a redemption race for me. Last year, I was seventh over-all here, I went down my bike and walked all the deadly hills and cramped at the finish line.  So heading to this race, I had 3 goals in mind. Not to go down the bike unless its T2, finish strong, and win 1st over-all

The swim was a two 600m loop. Though it didn’t stop raining, winds were fair and it gave us a very flat open water swim. Went first out of the water in a very relaxed pace.

The bike leg of this race is where I think it is decided. It’s whether you attack all the hills and pay for it later or just maintain a good pace and run as hard as you can off the bike but have the fear of someone already catching up on you on the hills. A week before the race I planned on attacking the hills, confident enough of where I’m at in terms of condition but 2 days before the race, I got a fever that made me lay down the bed literally the whole day. Luckily, I recovered enough to start the race.

It was a 3 10km loop leg with 3 deadly hills per lap. Every climb hurt and felt like I was not moving at all! There were a lot of turn-around points where I can see how far I am on the 2nd guy following me. It kinda helped to see where I am, how far from the 2nd one, and if he is hurting like I was. I came in T2 still leading but only 5 or 10 seconds away! He really cut that lead on the bike.

Run was where I made my move and won the race. After putting on my shoes, I blasted out on the run as fast as I can for the first 2 loops with 2 km each. I want to think I’m a better runner of the bike than him if not, at least for that day HAHA! The 3rd loop is where I enjoyed the run and just maintained the pace I made.

I owe it to TriMac coaching. One of the best coaching staff, if not the best in Metro! In just a year, they made a lot of developments in me. I’m not the only one who won in Anvaya. TriMac kids also ruled their races the day before. Go check ’em out! https://www.facebook.com/trimacsports

As for my goals, I made it! I climbed all the hills now on my saddle and not on my shoes, won 1st over-all, and finished strong! I didn’t cross the finish line literally when I finished. I jumped over it! Personally, very strong finish

A triathlete making a comeback and a true blue Scorpio. That sums it up quite nicely :)
