Race for Sendong | Race Results and Review

From the entire crew of SWIMBIKERUN.ph, there’s nothing else to say but a huge THANK YOU to everyone who heeded our call for the Race for Sendong | Singlets and Clothes Drive for the Victims of Typhoon Sendong! Up to now we still can’t believe the amount of donations we were able to gather in such a short amount of time.

The race was about getting our donations to the victims of Typhoon Sendong as quickly as possible. The goal was to collect as many as we can and send it before Christmas.

To maximize the reach of the drive, we coordinated with various cycling, multisport, and lifestyle shops within the metro and delegated them as official drop off points for the drive. That way it didn’t matter whether you’re from the south or the north. There’s always a shop near you where you can give your donations.

From worrying about whether a lot of people will donate for the drive, the problem quickly became “how the heck will I transport all the donations?” A big problem but, it’s a good problem to have

We only wanted singlets and clothes but the relief operation became an all out donation drive! Some people were donating boxes upon boxes of water, food, and much needed medicines. On the first day of collections alone, my sole means of transpor, my trusty Innova, was filled to the brim!

All the way to the windshield!

Packed up to the roof!

Day 2 was crazier. I honestly did not know anymore how I’ll pick up and transport all the donations.

Thanks to a divine intervention, I was contacted by fellow triathlete, Joselito Lontok, big cheese of Mail and More, and asked me if I need help transporting the good and with the logistics. He has no idea! =)

With Mail and More’s help, I was able to transport all the donations in time for the deadline. Mail and More sent trucks to some of the drop off points and took care of the donations. Without those guys I honestly do not know how I’d be able to collect all the donations. I never thought our relief drive would grow this big!

Thanks Mail and More!

Ready to ship!

Pictures don’t do justice to the actual amount of the donations

Elite Triathlete Monica Torres took time off her busy schedule to drop off some of her donations as well!

Again, THANK YOU to everyone who donated and to all the shops who made Race for Sendong a HUGE success.  Thanks to everyone who shared the page as well.. Runners World, Candy Mag, Kikay Runner, etc, you guys know who you are. Thanks to all the readers and fans of SWIMBIKERUN.ph. The power of social media is simply one of a kind.

Thanks to Mail and More for being our logistics partner.

Let’s keep on praying for our brothers and sisters at CDO and Iligan City. Let’s help them get back on their feet and recover.

Even if our Race for Sendong Relief Drive is over, you can still give donations at Red Cross or any of the relief operation centers located nationwide.

Tulong tulong Pinoy.

So proud to be a Pinoy.
