Here’s a short note from the organizers of DEFY 123 Triathlon!

To all DEFY 123 Tri Participants:

Please find attached the official results of DEFY 123 Tri.  These are simply the times listed from top-down.  Gold, Silver, Bronze overall winners are separated in a different file.
The race results were supposed to go out within two days of the event, but due to the earthquake and its after-effects, we thought it would be best to delay its release.  We hope you understand.
Thank you, and best of luck always to all of you.

First of all, our heart goes out to all the victims of the earthquake. As media partner and participant of the race, we saw first hand, just how beautiful Bohol is. The bike course alone of DEFY 123 was like a mini tour of the province. Taking us to Bohol’s famous heritage sites and tourist spots.

As expected, Monica Torres and Michael Murphy dominated the race from start to finish. 2012 Ironman 70.3 Philippines Filipino Elite champion, August Benedicto, came in second for the men’s overall followed closely by Paul Jumamil. The Fitness First duo of Rhodora Ellis and Rizzo Regis Tangan, completed the women’s overall podium with a second and third place finish respectively.

DEFY 123 Triathlon offered a lot of firsts when it comes to race organizing in the Philippines. From the 10am gun start, to the air conditioned transition area, even up to the ice cold beer being served at the BBZ FROST IN TRANSITION transition area  (yes, even while you’re racing!).

Sure, the race is far from perfect, the start of the race got changed on the fly as the supposed beach start was turned into a water start because of the low tide. Some racers were also looking for a medal to commemorate their finish but instead got a DEFY 123 (chaleko style) jacket as the finisher souvenir. Sure, the jacket is nice, but for most racers, nothing beats a medal hanging over your head.

The race surely experienced growing pains. But all in all, the race looks promising and we can’t wait for next year’s edition.

The DEFY 123 Triathlon dared to defy the triathlon norm and offered the Filipino triathlon community a new style of racing. Honestly, it worked.

DEFY 123 just redefined the Philippine triathlon scene.

A triathlete making a comeback and a true blue Scorpio. That sums it up quite nicely :)
