Lacuna all set for 2013 SEA Games | Swim News

The Philippines is sending its strongest tankers to the 2013 South East Asian Games with Olympian and Speedo elite athlete Jessie Khing Lacuna at the forefront. The 27th SEA Games will be held this year at Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar from December 11 to 22. Good luck to the Team Philippines!

After coming off from a silver finish in the 200m freestyle and a bronze win in both the 4x100m and 4x200m freestyle relays during the 2011 SEA Games in Indonesia, Lacuna is confident to do well again this year. “So far okay naman, I feel good kasi tuloy-tuloy naman yung training and nag-add kami ng gym workout which is a big factor na nakakadagdag ng strength,” said Lacuna.

Coach Carlos “Pinky’ Brosas is heading the Philippine swimming team and is supervising Lacuna’s training, making sure he is in top form.

Lacuna will be joined by fellow athlete Jasmine Alkhaldi, also an Olympian and is currently on scholarship at the University of Hawaii. During the 15th FINA World Championships in Barcelona, Spain this year, Alkhaldi was able to set a new Philippine record in the 100m butterfly besting her own record.

US-based swimmers Mathew Navatta and Joshua Hall will also be part of the swimming delegation. Hall, also a delegate during the FINA World Championships, broke the previous record held by Miguel Molina in the 100m breaststroke during the competition.

The Philippines is sending a total of 210 athletes to the 27th SEA Games this year. Around 6000 athletes are expected to gather during the 3-week event who will compete in 34 sporting events.
