Let’s Take A Moment Of Silence… | We Are So Damn Lucky

Like what the title says, let’s take a moment of silence to appreciate what we (the Filipino triathletes) have right now. Last time we looked, we now have some of the best and toughest triathlon races in the world. Also, we have a lot of race organizers, each striving to give you the best race possible.

The result? More options and more races for us endurance fanatics!

Flashback 5-6 years ago, as long as you get over 100 participants to join your race, you can call your race a success. Now? Slots get filled up in less than 24 hours.

But that’s not what we wanna talk about. What caught our attention was something Filipino triathletes could only dream off during those years. The chance to qualify and race in what is widely considered as the mecca and holy grail of triathlon. The Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, and of course, the CHALLENGE ROTH.

Just how tough is it to qualify for KONA? Let’s look at it this way, the fastest Filipino Ironman record right now is held by Arland Macasieb. We’re not sure, but it’s mostly likely around the 9:30-940 hours range. If you’re lucky, that would be enough to earn you a slot via a roll down.  But in most cases? You won’t even sniff the top 10.

The same goes for CHALLENGE ROTH.

And now? Here it is in front of us. Basically at our fingertips.

So, should we pick one among the two? Why should we? We love them both!

This alone, signifies that WE HAVE ARRIVED when it comes to this crazy sport. We are now on the world map when it comes to triathlon. The moment we heard about the possible KONA slots exclusively for the Philippines, we couldn’t wait for the registration to open!

So don’t let this opportunity slip nation! Honestly, we were surprised by the lack of enthusiasm about this. We should be over the moon and signing up for this one ASAP!

Too bad the ALL-EXPENSES paid (free entry slot, accomodation, plane fare) entry to CHALLENGE Roth was awarded via an online raffle. Big congratulations to Meinardo Opiana! You’re a lucky man :)
