Select members of the media were invited to check out and try the all new Lumia 630. With its patended #SensorCore technology, we battle tested the phone and was able to give it a go for a couple of days.
The Lumia 630 Dual Sim comes with a new innovation called SensorCore, which allows motion sensors to run as background tasks without wasting the battery. It will know when you’re walking and exercising by tracking your movement and location, and means the Lumia 630 doubles as a fitness tracker using apps like Bing Health & Fitness.
Bing Health & Fitness brings together great fitness, nutrition and health content, along with trackers, tools and other features. Set your daily calorie goal, record what you eat and get nutritional information for over 300,000 foods. Choose from hundreds of workouts and exercises with step-by-step instructions, photos and video. Use the GPS tracker to record your time, distance, pace and calories burned while you walk, run, bike and do other activities.

What differentiates SensorCore from the sensor technology included in other smartphones?
· The Nokia Lumia 630 DS introduces a range of low-power sensing capabilities called SensorCore. The sensors gather motion and location tracking data even while the phone is ‘asleep’ in your pocket – perfect for exercise and exploration. Bing Health and Fitness tracks your location and activity to help you build a detailed picture of how you spend your time.
· Unlike traditional GPS and motion sensors, Sensor Core uses very little power and provides consumers with both control and privacy with 10 days of data stored on their device, and control of which apps get access to what data.
· Available on the new Nokia Lumia devices, Bing Fitness and Health is the first app to incorporate SensorCore.
I’m concerned about privacy – after all, you’re storing my life in 10-day increments. What steps have you taken to ensure privacy?
With a central logging repository, SensorCore is able to function in the background, collect data securely and provide the user with full control of which apps can access data. The central repository is stored on device only. No cloud storage of services are used in the collection process, so the user is really in control of their own data.
Can you provide an example of how the data collected and analyzed by SensorCore will impact an application’s performance?
SensorCore delivers smarter apps experiences for consumers by incorporate real-time monitoring and storing of data such as steps taken, calories burned, and miles walked, as well as automatic route tracking and activity recognition – all with very lower power (unlike traditional motion sensors and GPS).
Other than the Bing Fitness and Health app, what other apps leverage SensorCore? When will an SDK be available to the developer community?
Bing Health & Fitness is the first app to use SensorCore but the new SensorCore SDK beta opens up the possibility for other app developers to get in on the action. What’s more, SensorCore can be combined with GPS for the perfect training partner that just magically knows when you start running.

So for the real low down, how much is it?
Lumia 630 Dual SIM is available for PhP 7,990 (SRP) and it’s available in bright orange, bright yellow, and bright green, white and black.
THE DIRTY :
The Lumia 630 (at its price point), can pretty much go head to head against the other more established dual sim phones in the market. It’s definitely not a game changer by any means but what makes it stand out is its SensorCore technology, which is surely a plus for people living the active lifestyle.
For basic needs, the phone is powerful enough to surf, take a pictures, and handle your everyday mobile phone needs. The battery packs enough juice, to last an average user at least a day and a half before recharging. Do note though that I really didn’t use the phone to make A LOT of phone calls. But I did use it to surf a lot and even find my way around Manila.
The picture quality is a notch below the average, but enough for a 7k phone.
Also, the Windows Phone 8.1 OS takes a little getting used to. If you’re used to android, they pretty much work the same way.
We must admit, we did miss the usual apps that we use in the play store and app store.
THE VERDICT :
A good day to day phone. If you’re not that much into games and stuff and just want the basic functions of a phone, this is a good alternative.
Btw… we sorely missed the front facing camera, which means no #selfie.
