National Age Group Triathlon (NAGT) Subic Leg 2017 | Race Results and Review

Congratulations to the winners and finishers of the National Age Group Triathlon (NAGT) Subic Leg! The 2017 triathlon season is upon us indeed as 400 athletes from all over the country competed at the first major triathlon race of the year and bragging rights for the best in age group crown.

John Chicano delivered the performance of ages as he bested two of the country’s top triathletes today. Nikko Huelgas and Ed Macalalad, who both just came from an intense training camp in Portugal, came out of the water basically at the same time (22:59 and 22:44) to win and finish the NAGT Elite Category in 2:03:07. Huelgas and Macalalad, finished the race in 2:06:45 and 2:07:19, respectively.

Due to a failed strategy on the bike from the leaders, Chicano overcame a 1 minute deficit build a 1 minute cushion of his own as he headed to T2, a full minute ahead of the chase pack. From then on, Chicano never looked back as he blitzed the field with a race best 37:00 run. Building enough cushion to win the race with plenty of time to spare.

In the women’s elite, Claire Adorna (2:19:12) was on a class of her own as she finished the race a full 20 minutes ahead of her nearest competitor, Leyann Ramo. Cianyl Gonzales wrapped up the women’s podium with a 2:55:04 finish time.

It’s too bad Monica Torres DNS’d the race as everyone was looking forward to a possible epic battle between two of the country’s top women elites.

A triathlete making a comeback and a true blue Scorpio. That sums it up quite nicely :)
