BREAKING : More Slots to Open for 2018 Century Tuna IRONMAN PHILIPPINES.. But you’ll now have to qualify.

The good news : The 2018 Century Tuna IRONMAN PHILIPPINES will be opening MORE slots for its inaugural June 03, 2018 race.

Now for the semi-good / semi-bad news. You’ll now have to qualify for the race.

So how does one qualify?

All athletes that registered for the 2018 Century Tuna IRONMAN PHILIPPINES would have to have completed either an IRONMAN 70.3 or IRONMAN event between January 2016 and March 2018 to be eligible to race.

The logic of this is to ensure as close to a 100% finishing rate to all participants. Given that this is just a one-off event, there’s nothing better than having EVERYONE cross the finish line.

Understandably, there would be resistance, but we actually get the point of the rule. Is it for profit? Was it put in place to ensure more participants for the other IRONMAN branded races? One only has to think that it is already a given (based on our survey) that IRONMAN 70.3 DAVAO will be a sold-out race. Lastly, the validation year starts from January 2016 to March 2018. That’s TWO YEARS.

Safe to say, if you haven’t finished a 70.3 or an IRONMAN within that time frame, there’s a huge chance that you will have a hard time for the full monty.

“But I will train for this! I don’t need the validation!”

Trust us, an IRONMAN is no joke. If you just started racing this year or late last year (hence the hesitation for the validation) we’d like nothing more as well than seeing you finish a 70.3 first.

And yup, your validation doesn’t have to come from an IRONMAN branded race. It can be any from any other half-iron or full distance race, you’ll just have to send your results to the organizers so they can verify.

If in any case you won’t be able to validate, Sunrise Events will refund your registration in full.
