National Age Group Triathlon Kicks Off With 630 Participants

The Philippine triathlon scene is off to a good start this year with the 2018 National Age-Group Triathlon (NAGT) series kicking off this 28th of January at six in the morning at the ACEA Resort area San Bernardino, Subic Bay Freeport.


A record field of 630 triathletes will be in attendance this year with entrants coming from all over the Philippines. This year’s roster of registered participants is said to be the largest in the seven-year history of the NAGT series.

The NAGT series is the Triathlon Association of the Philippines’ (TRAP) main platform in recruiting new talents for the national team competing in the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), the Asian Games, Asia Cup events, and the ITU World Cup events. The Youth Olympic Games aspirants are entered in the Sprint distance events to gauge their readiness after shifting from the shorter Super Sprint distance. This batch of aspirants is touted by race experts to have showed remarkable growth and shows promise.

Organized by the TRAP in cooperation with the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority’s Tourism Department, the event will be showcasing three events of different degrees of difficulty. The first one is a Standard Distance (1.5 Km swim – 40 Km bike – 10 Km run), followed by a Sprint Distance (750 meter – 20 Km bike – 5 Km run), and finally a Super Sprint Distance (500-meter swim – 10 Km bike – 2.5 Km run). The swim will be held at ACEA Beach resort followed by the bike leg, which will stretch out to Argonaut Highway while the run will be in San Bernardino.

At stake in the event sponsored by the Philippine Sports Commission, Gatorade, SBMA, Harbor Point Ayala Mall, Standard Insurance and Asian Centre for Insulation Philippines would be qualifying points for the Youth Olympic Games triathlon event, which will be held on the month of October at the beautiful city of Buenos Aires in Argentina.

Top 3 finishers of each age-group category (on all 3 distances) and team relay categories will receive medals.

Race kits may be claimed at Harbor Point Ayala Mall on January 27 from 10AM to 7PM. A mandatory race briefing would also be held at the same venue from 6 to 6:30PM.Mandatory bike check-in would be at ACEA from 3 to 5PM and 7 to 9PM of the same day.
