On the morning of May 6, 2018, while parked at the side of the road and in the process of putting bikes in the car, Dane Zamudio and Mark Cabe were side swept by a drunk driver. Both of them have sustained several serious injuries such as broken bones that require surgeries, multiple abrasions and lacerations. Dane sustained a broken upper arm, which required a plate to be placed, and several open wounds that needed stitches. We’ve just discovered that her ACL and PCL are both torn, and would require another surgery. Mark had his left foot and ankle broken. His big toe was an open fracture and they had to put metal in it to get the bone back in place, while his foot and ankle will require another surgery where they will put metal and screws to put them back together. After their surgeries and wounds heal, they will then require physical therapy to get better further.
We are still lucky that both have come out of this accident with their lives (broken bones and multiple wounds aside) and are on their way to recovery, but the medical costs are already staggering which is, unfortunately, beyond our families’ capacity. Although we are hoping the drunk driver will be paying for all their medical needs and the repair of our car, we need to attend to their immediate needs first.
That is why we are here to appeal further to the love and support of our friends and family in the most trying time of our lives. This accident has not only affected our families and friends, but also our lives, forever.
Team Trimac, together with our friends from Aboitiz Tri, Fit Ph, TriSixFive, Secondwind Running and friends from the running and triathlon communtity have organized a benefit run for Mark and Dane. This event will also serve as our campaign against drunk driving. We hope you can come and support this running event. See you all on May 27!
