Bikes lanes on EDSA? Will it continue to just be a dream? Is it still possible? Here’s an complete visual reinterpretation made by Louwie A. Gan and Associates.
Let’s face it. Cycling for 23.8 kilometers (or even running!) is nothing for the average athlete. And that is exactly the length of EDSA from Monumento to Baclaran.
It’s all too common now to get stuck on EDSA for 1-2 hours. 1 hour is already considered as the norm and a “quick trip”. This Christmas season? Expect that to worsen.
“Oh, it took me only 45 minutes!”, we sometimes say. But what’s not commonly mentioned is that, that’s just to travel 5 to 10 kilometers … by car.
The video shows a very green EDSA, with segregated sections for the bus and private cars. Pretty much what we have now, except for the dividers and the disciplined motorists.
Hay, EDSA. Kaya pa ba? We’ll never know. But this video at least gives us a glimmer of hope that with proper planning and discipline, it can still be done.
