EVENT DETAILS

After its debut on the national stage last year, with the holding of the 2019 Penong’s 5i50 Davao, Penong’s Barbecue Seafood & Grill holds its second race on February 23, 2020, this time at the Hijo Resorts Davao in Tagum City, Davao del Norte

Penong’s owner Ma. Teresa Regis said she appreciates the change in the venue which will showcase the beauty of Davao del Norte before the world.

“I am excited, of course. I grew up in (Barangay) Madaum (which is a few minutes away from Hijo Resorts Davao) and it’s a good idea for us to showcase before the triathletes, their families and friends that there are nice places (in Davao Province) other than Davao (City).

The swim course starts at the beautiful beach of Hijo Resorts Davao with participants swimming in the pristine waters of Davao Gulf.

The multi-loop bike course takes the participants around the beautiful roads of Tagum City which are lined with picturesque palm trees and traverse expansive plantations. A challenging run course goes through scenic coastal areas and to the finish line in Hijo Resorts Davao.

“And it’s a whole new experience to the triathletes. Same racecourse (will present) less challenge but with our new race (course) a different experience and challenge awaits,” said Regis.

She added that the new and improved course presents participants with a fresh adventure and an opportunity to experience the natural beauty of Davao del Norte. And she expects a bigger field than last year.

“More participants because of our new and better racecourse. The race (sometimes) is dependent on the weather. (I’m) praying that the weather will cooperate,” said Regis.

Being a family of athletes the Penong’s owner said she and her children will again participate in the race.

“Yes, we will (join the race). But this time I am thinking of doing sprint (if my work schedule permits),” said Regis.

Penong’s 5i50 Triathlon will be followed by the Alveo IRONMAN 70.3 Presented by Petron on March 22 in Davao; the Century Tuna full IRONMAN Presented by Big Boss Cement to be held June 7 in Subic Bay Philippines; the Sun Life 5i50 Triathlon on July 12 in Bohol; and the Regent Aguila IRONMAN 70.3 Presented by Philam Vitality to be held August 9 in Cebu.

Sunrise Events completes its 2020 calendar with the Black Arrow Express 5i50 Triathlon October 25 in Subic Bay.
