The Tale Of The P4 | Giving Back

Remember the P4 that we auctioned? There’s a really awesome story behind that bike. When we initially broke the news that we’ll be auctioning off a race ready Cervelo P4 (and with race ready we mean the bike is loaded with race wheels, SRAM Red drivetrain, etc etc), a lot of people couldn’t believe it! Who would do such a thing right? Well, someone did, and he just earned the respect of the entire multisport community.

The donor actually didn’t want any fanfare, he just wanted to give back and help. But, we feel that, we need to get the word out. Not for any reason, but just so that others might be inspired by it, and follow suit.

With permission from the donor, who we will just call “Mr. P”, here’s the message he sent to us.

Sir Carlos good evening. Sorry to bother you i know you are a very busy man. This will only take a few minutes of your time. We haven’t met personally but I frequently see you during races.

I send you this message to seek your advice. You see I want to help out the victims of Yolanda and the Bohol earthquake. I have already donated clothes among other things but I think it is not enough. I know what it’s like to lose everything. We were victims of the 90s earthquake here in Dagupan City. As well as flood victims from typhoon Pepeng (a month after Ondoy) where 90% of Pangasinan was flooded and our warehouse was submerged in water. But this past year has been good to us, to our family. My mother who was diagnosed with breast cancer has her health back. Business is also picking up and doing well so far. That is when I thought of selling something most dear to me. Something I have cared for more than anything I own, my bike.

I thought that maybe I can sell it for a good cause and donate everything to the victims. I mean everything. I won’t take a single centavo from it. I write to you because of your connections and status in our sport and because I also wish to remain anonymous. Maybe you have a program in place where we can include this. I am open to criticism and suggestions Sir.

Thank you for your time.

Best regards,
Mr. P

PS. My bike is a 2011 P4 sram red with a Flo 90 front and rear hed disc (older flat version).

Now, if that’s not giving back, we dunno what is.

In the end, the bike was sold for Php 91,800.00, all of which, will be for the benefit of the victims of Typhoon Yolanda.

A big salute to you Mr. P! Credit goes out to you too for kick-starting our successful auction.

Lastly, to the winner of the SBR.ph auction, enjoy your new ride!

A triathlete making a comeback and a true blue Scorpio. That sums it up quite nicely :)
