HUUB Masters Swim Event: Making Waves at Ateneo De Manila University

The Ateneo De Manila University swimming pool recently played host to a spectacular gathering of swimmers, both seasoned and newcomers, at the much-anticipated HUUB Masters Swim event. This event, co-organized by Olympian Jenny Guerrero and proudly sponsored by Cecille Ty from Huub Philippines and Unison Bikes, was a true testament to the essence of swimming, showcasing excellence, camaraderie, and competitive spirit.

Diversity and inclusivity were at the forefront of the HUUB Masters Swim, as it welcomed a wide array of swimmers, each bringing their unique flavor to the competition. Whether they were seasoned athletes or fresh faces in the sport, the event celebrated the idea that swimming is a lifelong journey.

The event featured a stellar lineup of swimmers representing various backgrounds, leaving their mark on the competition in distinctive ways. The Philippine Army Aqua Troopers, renowned for their unwavering discipline, displayed their exceptional swimming skills, earning the admiration of the enthralled spectators. Meanwhile, the UPVST (University of the Philippines Varsity Swim Team) showcased their commitment to both academics and athletics, leaving a lasting impression with their remarkable performance.

The WaveRunners Swimming Club took center stage, dominating several swim events across different age brackets. Hannah Castaneda, a former member of the Ateneo Swim Team, returned to her alma mater, reigniting the competitive spirit and inspiring the next generation of swimmers.

Notably, the event introduced the Masters Category, enticing former varsity members and legendary swimmers to test their prowess once more. The Green Oysters, former members of the De La Salle University Green Tankers, eagerly embraced this challenge, competing in various individual and team events. On the other end of the spectrum, the youngest participants, Stella Cunanan and Iana Gonzalez, both 8 years old, boldly competed in the Masters Category, representing their respective swimming clubs.

Triathlon icon Ronald Molit, founder of the largest triathlon team in the Philippines, FIT PH, showcased his versatility by seamlessly transitioning to the pool, thrilling the crowd with his swimming proficiency. Ani De Leon-Brown, former UPVST Captain and current Philippine Triathlon Team National Coach, demonstrated her talent in the 100m individual medley.

Adding a touch of celebrity glamour to the event, former South East Asian Games Silver Medalist and beloved celebrity, Enchong Dee, captivated fans and fellow athletes alike with his presence, making the HUUB Masters Swim event an unforgettable experience.

The HUUB Masters Swim featured exhilarating races, culminating in nail-biting finishes and personal bests. The atmosphere was electric, with the crowd’s cheers motivating swimmers to give their all. The day celebrated swimming as both a sport and a passion.
