SBR.ph Tri Series 2020 | Announcement

We are very sorry, SBR.ph Nation.

Dear SBR.ph Tri Series 2020 Powered By Go For Gold Participants,

To say that these past few weeks and months have been unpredictable and unprecedented would be an understatement. Our team has been wrestling with the decision to host the SBR.ph Tri Series 2020 Powered By Go For Gold on its original dates in light of the current situation involving COVID-19. It takes a lot of careful planning organizing an event which we know involves a lot of beginners and most especially kids. We also know that most of you have been spending months training for this community event, and there’s nothing we want more than to get out there with you and race.

The multisport community has been impacted with canceled races, limited training opportunities, and we’ve also taken into account all the current factors and data, and it is with heavy hearts that we, along with our event partners, have made the difficult decision with the health and safety of everyone involved in mind to indefinitely postpone the SBR.ph Tri Series 2020 which includes the Aquaman Aquathlon, Duaman Duathlon, and Triman Triathlon.

Since 2013, the SBR.ph Tri Series would not have made it without the tremendous amount of people in the community that has been supporting us and our events by being a participant or volunteering year after year. Your success at our races has been our success and we cannot overstate our appreciation for all the love and understanding we have received. We love our races as much as you love to be a part of them, we are in this for the long haul and plan to create awesome race experiences in the community for many years to come. We hope that everyone will follow the recommended safety guidelines, stay safe, stay home, and be healthy so we can race together soon.

Like what we always say in our races, a 1% risk is a risk too big. COVID-19 is a threat that we must take seriously. And with the extension of the quarantine period, we think that doing a race series just weeks after being told to practice social distancing is irresponsible and goes against government recommendations as well as against the SBR.ph Tri Series’ mission of doing good for the community.

Organizing a race in a time of a crisis would deprive our partners of the necessary manpower they need to focus on COVID-19 and their own recovery efforts. We can’t be foolish or stubborn when it comes to people’s lives, with hundreds of people that are a part of our events, the welfare of participants including volunteers, partners, family, and crew is always a priority at our events. We also believe that in postponing the SBR.ph Tri Series, we will give the world time to heal and time for you to concentrate on things important to you. The virtual race option has also been considered but given that a lot of our participants are beginners, not all would have the gear needed to join a virtual race. If there’s anything we don’t want to do, it’s to burden them with additional expenses when it is clear that everyone is already suffering because of the crisis.

As of today, all events in all venues are on-hold and they also cannot guarantee new dates as the situation will be re-assessed on a monthly basis. Our team is doing its very best and would continue monitoring the situation and will make a decision in accordance with the local government, our partners, and with your best interests in mind.

We will do our best and keep all our options open for the 2020 season. Should things no longer be suitable for 2020, we are announcing our temporary / pencil booked scheduled dates for 2021 so everyone can mark their calendars. Please note that the dates are still subject to change.

  • Aquaman Aquathlon – May 23, 2021
  • Duaman Duathlon – June 27, 2021
  • Triman Triathlon – July 25, 2021

We believe in honesty and transparency. Please understand that our events, as a homegrown local community race series, are produced solely on entry fees alone. We do not have the backing like the big races. 2020 has been in the planning and parts of your registration funds have already been spent on operations, advertising and advance purchases

We share in your disappointment and are providing the following options to give you the flexibility to race and celebrate with us when the world is healed. These options also allow us to manage our resources and start planning once we defeat this virus.

1) All entries are automatically deferred to the new dates. Also, you have the option of using the credit (the amount you paid) and be applied to any of our other races.

2) We understand that you might not be able to make it to the possible new 2020 dates that will be announced and the 2021 schedule, you are free to sell or transfer your entry to another participant at no charge. You can request for the transfer AT ANY TIME via our registration portal during the registration period. The link is sent to your confirmation email.

Note: Should you decide to defer your registration to 2021, we will donate 10 meals for our front liners in your name to Food For Meds – Kababayanihan. A group that we’ve been working with since the Taal Volcano Eruption via our SBR.ph Cares Program and now has been cooking and feeding over 1,000 front liners a day daily. Please visit their FB group to know more. This option is valid to all deferments until April 30, 2020.

Kindly let us know your decision by sending an email to [email protected]

Now is the time that we work together as a community and society to get through this crisis. We are all in this together and together we will get through it. We hope that everyone will stay indoors so we can help flatten the curve as soon as possible. The earlier we do, the earlier we can return to our normal lives.

And hopefully, start racing again.

On behalf of the SBR.ph Team, thank you and God bless.

Regards,

SBR.ph Team

A triathlete making a comeback and a true blue Scorpio. That sums it up quite nicely :)
