Candidates for Asian Youth Olympic Games Qualifier | Tri News
Announcement from Coach Rick of Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP). Good luck to our young guns!
We are happy to announce the top candidates for the Asian Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Qualifying Race in Kazkhstan in June 2014. These are:
Male-
- Jimuel Patilan
- Jose Nobles
- Justin Chiongbian- alternate
Female-
- Magali Echauz
- Kate Lagman
- Vicky Deldio- alternate
These young triathletes were the top point makers of the Philippine YOG Qualifying Series. The PHI YOG Series comprised of 5 races: The Batang Pinoy Triathlon in Dec 2012, Subic NAGT last Feb, The Asian Triathlon Championships in Apr, the Cebu NAGT in May, & TriUNITED 2 this July. The best 3 results were then tabulated to determine the qualifiers. 10 points were awarded for 1st place, 7 for 2nd, 5 for 3rd, 3 for 4th, and 1 for 5th.
In a closely contested male category, Patilan, Nobles, & Chiongbian finished with 27, 20, & 19 respectively, while Echauz, Lagman, & Deldio got 30, 22 & 21 in the female version.
The candidates will be handled by Coaches Anthony Lozada, Patrick Joson, and Melvin Fausto when in the Philippines. Foreign training camps are also scheduled for the Team. To wit, Echauz, Deldio, and Coach Lozada are leaving for Jeju, Korea for the ITU/ASTC Women’s Training Camp from July 30- Aug 6.
