1st TriAksyon Capiz International Triathlon | April 22-23, 2017

The Province of Capiz and the country’s Seafood Capital is all set to host the 1st TriAksyon Capiz International Triathlon on April 22-23, 2017!

The Province of Capiz under the leadership of Governor Antonio del Rosario, in conjunction with its Sports Tourism Program, presents TRIAKSYON, the first international triathlon in the province of Capiz. Slated to happen on April 22 and 23 during CAPIZTAHAN, a weeklong festival commemorating the foundation of the second civil government of the province of Capiz, TRIAKSYON is the first leg of what is planned to be an annual triathlon in Capiz Province participated by swimmers, bikers, and runners from all over Panay Island and other regions. Combining the challenges of swimming, biking and running, TRIAKSYON is divided into four categories (Tri-Kids, Sprint, Standard, and Relay), and will be held in select locations in Capiz Province beginning in Roxas City, the country’s Seafood Capital.

TRIAKSYON aims to support the various sports communities in Capiz and the rest of the country to foster camaraderie and interrelations among the provinces for both leisure and business. It also aims to promote Capiz as an ideal location for triathlons and other sports events, given its diverse natural terrain. Moreover, TRIAKSYON aspires to promote Capiz as a tourist-friendly province with high-standard hotels and resorts, restaurants and coffee shops, and numerous manmade and natural attractions that make it a breathtaking leisure and eco-tourism destination. To date, Capiz has over a thousand rooms ready to accommodate guests.

Above all, TRIAKSYON seeks to raise awareness for the protection and conservation of the environment, and inspire citizens to be more proactive in taking care of the environment by practicing correct waste management and avoiding the use of plastic and styrofoams. Swimmers, bikers, and runners all over Panay Island, covering Iloilo, Aklan, and Antique, as well as other regions in the Philippines, will join the event. Foreign participants have likewise indicated desire to compete. Judging from the profile of the confirmed participants, thousands of spectators from all over the country are expected in this event. With the aim of enhancing the image of the province that would consequently increase tourist arrivals, TRIAKSYON will be held in all the major road networks of Roxas City and Panay Town, and will pass through the notable tourist destinations in these locations.
