GOLD RUSH! Philippine National Triathlon Team Bags Gold and Silver!
Congratulations to our Philippine National Triathlon Team for bagging BOTH gold and silver medals in the Men and Women’s division of the 29th SEA GAMES Triathlon!
Nikko Huelgas and John Chicano finished 1-2 in the men’s division while Kim Mangrobang and Claire Adorna finished first and second respectively in the women’s division.
Huelgas came out of the water 3 seconds behind Sheng Ren Chow of Singapore before taking the lead on the bike and taking it all the way to the finish line with a 37:51 10k run split. Huelgas finished in 1:59:30 followed by John Chicano who came in 2 minutes after in 2:01:27.
In the womens division, Kim Mangrobang set the pace from start to finish as she finished the swim virtually tied with Maria Claire Adorna in 21:10 and 21:09, respectively. Mangrobang put on the afterburners on the bike as she set the fastest bike (1:06:56) and run (42:20) splits of the day to finish in 2:11:14. Adorna, the previous SEA Gold medalist, came in at 2:18:58.
Congratulations also and job well done to all the Coaches and everyone who made this possible! This is a big win for the country and once again stamps our dominance (and future) in the sport of triathlon!
