An SBR.ph exclusive! Sunrise Events Inc., announces the biggest triathlon event in Philippine history as Manila plays host to the much awaited full-distance 2017 Ironman Manila, Philippines! The event will be a 3.8km Swim, 180km Bike, and then a 42km Run! Who’s game??
“In partnership with the city, we are one with the local government in keeping Manila clean. And the epitome of that partnership will be the Manila Bay which we’re proud to announce as the official SWIM START of the 2017 Ironman Manila, Philippines. We are fully aware that cleaning the bay would require a lot of work, but we believe that with exactly a year to go, starting on this very special day, we can do it!” said an official representive from Ironman Philippines who wishes not to be named as the event is still on its planning stages.
COURSE TEASER
The course is still not final, but based from experience (Tri Manila 2014), we know that the biggest challenge in holding a triathlon of this magnitude at the heart of the city would be setting up the race course. But here’s what we got so far!
SWIM – 3.8km
Manila Bay / 4 loops
BIKE – 180km
Transition will be at the Quirino Grandstand. Bike will travel from Roxas Boulevard then go all the way to Espana and then Nagtahan. / 2 loops
RUN – 42km
After completing the bike, participants will get to experience and see the true beauty of Manila as they traverse the streets of Intramuros, Luneta, Quiapo, and Divisoria, before heading back to the Quirino Grandstand for the ultimate “proclamation” finish.
REGISTRATION OPENING
As with any Ironman Philippines event, we’re 100% sure that you only have a few minutes to sign up once registration opens! We also heard that registration is set to open right after the much awaited 2016 Cobra Ironman 70.3 Asia-Pacific Championship! This event will also be limited to 1000 participants. So don’t forget to prep your computers (and a very stable internet connection!) for this one!
