Do you really need a coach? Or can you learn it on your own? We got an email from Archi, a newbie wanting to take up triathlon but has poor swimming skills (like most of us!). Read on for Coach Ani’s advice.
From Archi :
I’m planning on joining triathlons this year but I have poor swimming skills, do I need to enroll on formal swim lessons or can I just learn everything by myself using videos and books?
From Coach Ani :
Swimming is one of the most technique-oriented sports, and while you may gain some benefits from watching and reading about it, it is still a long shot from an actual swim expert giving you personal coaching.
I highly recommend enrolling in at least 8 sessions to begin with. It is going to be more difficult for you if you don’t invest in this early on as you may acquire bad habits.
Find a qualified instructor near you so you can see him/ her on a regular basis while you are learning.
All the best!
