Should I buy a triathlon bike right away? Ingrid signed up for his first triathlon and now he’s thinking whether to wait it out or go all out. Read on for what Coach Ani de Leon-Brown has to say.
From Ingrid Reyes:
Your Question: Hi Coach! Is it advisable if I get a triathlon bike right away? I accompanied my friends at SBR’s Triman and now they’re all ganging up on me to buy a racer bike. I signed up for a triathlon in November but I only have a mountain bike. Should I go all out right away? I’m thinking of getting a second hand road bike first.
From Coach Ani :
Hi Ingrid!
Congratulations on signing up on your first triathlon! I say don’t succumb to peer pressure and take your time. I say this for two main reasons.
1) You want to check your level of commitment, if you do get hooked after your first race, then you can feel better about splurging.
2) You want to align your budget with what’s available for you in the market. It doesn’t hurt to do some extensive research—after all, you would want to use the bike for a long time.
Wishing you a great first season in TRI!
Coach Ani
