It was sizzling hot at the NTT ASTC Subic International Triathlon 2016 (SUBit) as the best of the best competed in the country’s first and only ITU sanctioned race! Congratulations to all the winners and finishers and congratulations to Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP) for a job well done! Need proof? Look at the temperature! It even peaked at 40 deg!

Jobin Thobin-White of Australia was virtually untouched after going out of the swim just a couple of seconds behind race leader James Chronis of Greece. Thobin-White finished the race in a scorching hot time of 1:56:09 followed by Chronis (1:56:45) and by James Thorp of Australia who finished the race in 1:56:58.

Banjo Norte was the first Filipino to finish coming in on 8th with a time of 2:01:42.

A PROUD MOMENT

History was made in the Women’s Elite division as Kim Mangrobang from the Philippines, notched the country’s first win in the ITU circuit.

Mangrobang came in first with a time of 2:10:40. Another Kim from the Philippines, Kim Kilgroe, captured second place in 2:12:29 while Kate Rutherford of Hong Kong wrapped up the division with a time of 2:13:15.

THE AGE GROUP SELECT

With the recent elite – age group fiasco that happened in a previous race wherein elite athletes dropped down in the age group division (and obviously won), SUBiT added a nice touch to its race with the AGE GROUP SELECT division. Yeah, it still had its glitches, but seeing the best of the best age groupers of the country go head to head was a sight to behold. Sooner or later, we’re pretty sure the best of all the age groups will have this division on their radars.

The Top Age Group Select Winners. Benjie Zapanta (1st) and Niel Aynera (3rd) of One Tri Team and Jet Ramos (2nd) of The Podium Hotel of Baguio.
