Efficient Free Style Stroke – Lesser stroke count or higher stroke count?

Catch, Pull, Recover. Feel the water? What the heck is that?? For some triathletes and most beginners, swimming is the toughest discipline to improve. You train and swim for hours and hours in the pool but come race day, you either get sucked up in the washing machine or end up breast stroking!

So what really is the best swimming style for triathlon?

Is gliding the fastest and most efficient way?

Or just swim like a bear and stroke your arms like helicopter blades?

PhotobucketLangoy ilog FTW!

Or maybe it’s a combination of both?

Whatever your answer it, there are a lot of factors to consider every time you swim in a triathlon. The current (if you’re in open water), where you breathe (left side or right side), and where the participants are. Bottomline is, just keep pulling! You’ll get there eventually :)
